Online learning and face to face practical assessment in medication, continence and infection control, as a basis for client support in the community.
This course is a combination of three online learning modules.
Assist with Medication
This module is designed to guide support workers through the process of administering medication in the workplace. You will learn key responsibilities in the process of preparing medication for a client, with a focus on maintaining client safety, reducing the risk of errors and what to do when things don’t go to plan.
Basic Continence Support
With a focus on safe client support, this module guides support workers through the provision of basic bowel and urinary support. Here you will learn how to provide bowel support, including the administration of suppository and micro-enema and how to provide urinary support, including catheter care and support with a penile sheath.
Infection Prevention and Control
This learning module has been designed to provide support workers with the underpinning knowledge and skills to practice infection prevention and control when supporting clients in the community.
You will explore common types of infection causing micro-organisms, the chain of infection and how to prevent and control the spread of infection.
You will gain understanding in how infections are transmitted and how this applies to the safe handling of food and client support including the use of personal protective.
This course contains downloadable learning materials and video demonstrations of the safe medication checking process, how to administer different medication including suppositories and micro-enemas, how to provide catheter care and apply a penile sheath.
A face-to-face practical assessment in the safe administration of medication, suppository and enema, allows you to evidence the skills you have learned to ensure you are workplace ready.

Access to the 3 online learning modules commences when you have enrolled into your practical assessment appointment.
Face to face practical assessment
Select an assessment date and a 40 minute appointment time to begin your enrolment.
Please ensure you have enough time to complete your online learning prior to your assessment.
Once enrolled, check for emails containing access to training and practical assessment details.
